About Tasucu

Taşucu is a coastal town located at the feet of the Taurus Mountains on the Mediterranean Sea in Silifke, Mersin. Its climate is sunny and warm most of the year, making it a nice vacation spot year round. It is a calm, quiet town perfect for getting away from the distractions of the city. Trekking, swimming, fishing and diving are among the most popular activities in the area. There are a variety of water and land sport companies offering up ventures at reasonable prices. The main source of income for the province is citrus agriculture. Orange, lemon and tangerine trees line the streets and fill the town with their sweet aroma. A variety of delicious fruits and vegetables are also raised and sold in abundance.

Known as Holmi in antiquity, Taşucu was an important port in the ancient world and contains many historic remains. It is the sight of the Aya Tekla Basilica, a popular Christian pilgrimage spot built in the Byzantine period and still visited today. An 18th century building houses the Amphora Museum, a maritime archaeology museum displaying ancient jugs from shipwrecks dating from 3200 BC to 1800 AD. Tourists can also visit the nearby Mezgit Fortress, an enormous temple-tomb dating back to at least the 3rd century AD.

Taşucu’s beautiful 27 km long beach attracts sunbathers and swimmers to its sandy shore. Minibuses carry passengers from the center to Tisan Cove, a world-famous gorgeous turquoise cove surrounded by high mountains and forests. Boats traveling between Cyprus and Mersin pass through the lively Taşucu Port. Along the coast are souvenir shops, clothing stores, cafes, restaurants and bars. In addition to fresh vegetable dishes, visitors should try the Mersin’s famous “tantuni,” hot beef or lamb and onions wrapped up in warm flat bread. In addition, restaurants with sea views serve up freshly caught fish, seafood and a variety of vegetable mezzes and salads. Ferryboats regularly depart from and arrive at Taşucu’s port, which lies close to Cyprus. Visitors can arrive by bus from other towns in Turkey, such as Antalya, 389 km away, or Mersin’s city center, 94 km away. The closest airport is in Adana, about 165 km away.
