About Sozopol

Sozopol is around 35 km south from Burgas, one of Bulgaria’s most beautiful coves. Sozopol has a population of around 5000 people and is the oldest settlement on the Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria. Locals also prefer Sozopol during the summer months, as it is one of the most popular holiday towns.

Archeological findings show that the town had some cultural traditions as far back as 7000 years ago. The first settlement was built in Sozopol cove around 6000 years ago in the Neolithic Period. In 610 BC, Sozopol became a city-state and took the name of Apolloniya. After it was founded, Sozopol developed rapidly for the next two hundred years.

Sozopol is full of historical structures and many other interesting places. You can visit the old churches, amphitheatres, historical sites, the port, restaurants and beaches. There are camping areas in many locations of the city. For this reason accommodation is quite affordable in Sozopol and it is particularly preferred by backpackers. Ravadinovo Kalesi, Saint Ivan and Saint Peter are definitely worth seeing with day trips from Sozopil city centre. You can explore one of the most beautiful cities of Sozopol, Marinka, by joining a Quad Bike safari tour.
