About Castellammare del golfo

Castellammare del Golfo is a town in the Trapani Province of Sicily, and means "Sea Fortress on the Gulf" (stemming from the medieval fortress in the harbor). Almost all the famous shopping centers, eating and entertainment venues of the town are located in the port area called Cala Marina. Fishing is one of the main sources of livelihood of Castellammare del Golfo, which is near to the Gulf of Castellammare which is one of the most beautiful peninsulas in all of Sicily. Castellammare del Golfo, is also noted for having been the birthplace of many American Mafia figures, including Sebastiano DiGaetano, Salvatore Maranzano, Stefano Magaddino, Vito Bonventre, John Tartamella and Joseph Bonanno. In addition to this, it continues to attract the attention of many local and foreign tourists as it is conveniently situated between Palermo and Trapani.

It is home to the Doric Temple; You can start your trip to Castellammare del Golfo by visiting the Segesta amphitheater, where various performances are performed throughout the year. You can visit Scopello, which is known as the traditional tuna fishing ground and you can also visit, Trapani 35 km west and Palermo 30 km east. Other places within short distance of Castellammare del Golfo include San Vito Lo Capo, Riserva naturale dello Zingaro (natural reserve), Erice which is a historic village located 750 meters above sea level and the Egadi Islands, which you can only reach by boat. The gulf of Castellammare draws attention with its white sandy beaches.

The Archaeological Site of Segesta and the Greek Temple of Segesta should be the first places you visit as soon as you arrive to town which is famous for its beaches, fishing and archaeological ruins. You can take the Trapani-Erice cable car, have a pleasant time at the Parco Avventura Bosco Alcamo - Vivilbosco which is about 10.1 km from the center, taste wine at the Tenuta Rapitala Winery, watch a show at the Nino Croce Theater and participate in various activities at Parco NaturAvventura.
