About Cafayate

Cafayate is connected to Salta Province in the south of Argentina. Located on the slopes of the Andes Mountain Range, Cafayate is approximately 1700 metres above sea level.

An especially popular destination for those who come for the Calchaquí Valleys, Cafayate also has a lot to offer in terms of local wine production. Good quality wine is produced here due to the low rainfall and humidity. You can find many free tours organised to vineyards and wineries. There’s also a wine museum. In addition the town is home to the largest golf course in all of South America. As an emblem of Cafayate’s, Nuestra Senora del Rosario Cathedral is great place to get an idea of the local style of architecture. Colorado Waterfalls are also worthy of a visit.

The natural beauty of Calchaquí Valleys must be explored. Huge red structures of rock above desert valleys create a mesmerising landscape. You can’t say your visit to the Calchaquí Valleys is complete without singing in the natural amphiteatre created by the surrounding rock structures. It is strictly advised that you go on this trip to desert conditions with a guide. You might be surprised during your tour by llamas and a desert river. Another place to take some wonderful photographs is the Shell George region with its severe cliffs and soft white sand dunes.
