About Beijing

Beijing is China's capital and 2nd-largest city with a population of 22 million. Although it is China's second largest city, it is the most populated and most crowded capital city of the world.

The most remarkable point of interest is the"Forbidden City", which was home to the Chinese Emperor for thousands of years. This palace is like a city by itself, surrounded by a moat and large walls. Other places of interest include Wangfuijing Street, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Terra Cotta (Terracotta Warriors Museum), the Lama Temple and the Great Wall of China, located some distance from the city.

Because it considered shameful to tip in China, be careful in this regard. In general it is a safe city. However, be careful of scams in the touristic districts. Research the prices beforehand and bring along a basic phrasebook, as many people may not know English.

In Beijing, a humid continental climate prevails and the winters are cold and dry.
Summers are hot and humid. Rainfall is seen mostly in summer months. The best time to visit is in the spring and autumn. Urban transportation is provided by taxi or subway, but you may find the subway may be a bit crowded. Taxi prices are not too expensive.
