Transportation to Kharkiv Airport from the City Center

Kharkiv, also known as Kharkov, is the second largest city in Ukraine and has a very crowded population. Kharkiv is known as a major industrial and cultural hub located in the northeastern part of Ukraine. Freedom Square, known as the city center in Kharkiv, is among the largest squares in Europe. Those who want to visit this city travel to Kharkiv International Airport.

Kharkiv is a city which has an advanced transportation network. You can benefit from plenty of options among public transportation alternatives to reach wherever you want to go. Taking the metro will shorten the journey time for longer distances, while options such as tramway, trolleybus, bus and minibus provide a more affordable transportation for closer distances. The services are generally provided from 5 am until midnight. However, it may sometimes be difficult to find public transportation to some parts of the city after 9 pm.

In addition to urban transportation, you can also make an intercity journey by some train and bus services. There are free Wi-Fi points in certain areas of the city. In the case of need for internet access, the foreign visitors can easily find out about these services' departure times by taking the advantage of these internet points.

If you have any difficulty finding your way, you can also ask for help from the ticket booths you can come across in the city. Please remember to keep your ticket during your journey. Otherwise, you may have to pay a penalty in case of ticket control. Some services may be charged higher than other options depending on the distance to be covered. If you want to travel more practically to reach where you want to go, you are advised to take the advantage of taxi or car rental options.

Kharkiv International Airport is 12.5 kilometers away in the southeast of the city. There are several transportation options to reach the airport from the city center. If you are at a distant location from the airport and want to benefit from public transportation options, you may possibly need to change the means of transportation. Depending on where you are, it is possible to get to the airport by choosing from bus, trolleybus or minibus alternatives. You can also reach the airport faster if you take advantage of the taxi or car rental options.

Bus

You can get to the airport quickly by taking the bus 115 or the bus 119. You firstly need to get to Prospekt Haharina Metro Station to get on the bus number 115; if you want to take the bus 119, you need to go to Peremohy bus stop. Other than transportation to the airport, bus plays a major role in urban transportation. There are many bus lines that serve throughout the city. You can also choose from these bus lines to reach the airport from different routes.

Trolleybus

If you are planning to take the trolleybus line 3 to the airport, you need to change the means of transportation after arriving at one of the stops at Zirka Cinema, Kuznyechna Street or Hamarnyka Street. There are 30 or so trolleybus lines that provide transportation service throughout the city.

The minibuses used as supporting lines in urban transportation are also known as Marshrutka in Ukraine. You should firstly get to Akademika Barabashova metro station to reach the airport by minibus. Then, it is possible to reach the airport by taking the advantage of the minibuses 225 and 152 departing from this station.

Tramway

There is no direct tramway service to the airport. However, you can take the tramway to benefit from the bus, trolleybus or minibus options that provide transportation service to the airport. Tram is also one of the frequently preferred options for urban transportation. There are nearly 20 tramway lines within the city. You can find a tram nearly on all streets of Kharkiv. You can take the tramway lines 2 and 15 to get to Freedom Square.

So metro is a very practical transportation option for longer distances in urban transportation. You can get on the metro with blue tokens, which you can buy from the machines next to the station.

There are three metro lines in Kharkiv as Kholodnohirsko-Zavodska, Saltivska, and Oleksiivska.
